During the past 30 years ‘Dr. Jon’ has been immersive in countries throughout Asia and exposed to a wide range of meditative techniques. This, combined with his medical background and other experiences, have led to an appreciation of both eastern and western approaches to improving our physical and emotional health.
His medical career includes 30-years as an
Orthopedic Hand Specialist, 20-years of
international medical volunteer work, and training as an
Integrative Medicine Health Coach. However, this multifaceted individual is also an internationally respected
speaker,
musician, teacher, and
photographer with solo exhibitions in museums worldwide. He has had four audiences with the
Dalai Lama, and his book,
Inner Harmony: Living in Balance, with forewords by His Holiness and the
Queen Mother of Bhutan, has received
four international book awards. Dr. Kolkin also serves as president of the
Shades of Compassion Foundation and has spearheaded many
compassion-centered initiatives worldwide.
His daughter, Laira Kolkin Roth, is a Camp Breasties alum who says, “it was a pivotal moment in my breast cancer journey”. He is honored to participate in this year’s retreat.
